ChatGPT is getting smarter at searching (and I'm a bit excited about it)

Quick exciting update that might just save you hours of tab-hopping madness: ChatGPT has levelled up its internet searching game, and it's actually pretty cool.

What's new & why you'll care

Remember how ChatGPT used to be like that smart friend who knew everything... but only up to a certain date some months in the past? Well, now it's more like that same friend with unlimited access to the web and a really good habit of citing sources.

Here's The Magic Trick: Just ask ChatGPT to search the internet for whatever you're curious about. It will:

  • Scour the web for you
  • Summarise what it finds
  • (Best part!) Actually show you where it got the info from

Here is an example:

Pro tips for power users

Want to level up your searching game? Here are some ninja moves:

  • Click the "Searched X sites" link at the top to see exactly where it looked
  • Tap those little tag bubbles at the bottom for specific references
  • Get fancy by asking it to search specific sites (like "search Harvard Business Review for leadership studies")

But wait... is it reliable?

While this is a massive time-saver, treat it like a super-efficient research assistant rather than the ultimate truth-teller. Think "first draft of research" rather than "final answer." Still way better than drowning in browser tabs though.

Try this today:

Pick something you've been meaning to research (maybe that business trend you keep hearing about, or that market research you’ve been planning to do). Ask ChatGPT to search for it and see what happens.

Quick warning: Once you try this, you might get addicted to how much time it saves. Don't say I didn't warn you…

Cheers

Amantha
