AI (hopefully) hasn’t taken your job yet, but did it write the last 5 posts you just read on social media?

Here's how to spot AI-generated content in just a couple of seconds:

1. The “long” hyphen — made an appearance. (I don’t even know how to re-create it on my keyboard….is there a key for that?)
2. A Title (or Sub-Title) Where Every Word Starts With a Capital Letter. GenAI loves using capital letters at the start of every word for headings. It’s quite annoying.
3. Emoji overload. (Seriously - how many people used emojis in LinkedIn posts pre-2023? Now they are EVERYWHERE).
4. Cliched hooks. Such as: - “What if I told you…” (typically followed by something that is not particularly surprising…) - “This one thing changed everything.” (followed by a bit of drama that underdelivered on the promise set up by the hook).
5. Strange fonts and words in bold (a sign that the content was pasted from AI content generation software).

Now don't get me wrong - I LOVE AI and I even teach it. And I am ALL FOR using it to improve your writing and prompting it to give you ideas on how to make your posts perform even better. But please, please, don't just outsource all your thinking and writing to AI. LinkedIn and other platforms will be a not-very-fun place if this becomes all that fills our feed.
